Process Development Manager

Minneapolis, MN, USA

Summary:

Manage the Bepex Process Development Center operations, employees, and personnel training. The Bepex Process Development Center is Bepex’s pilot plant test facility used to develop material processes for customers at both the bench and pilot-scale in the design of large-scale commercial solutions as well as provide support after order in the generation of salable products through custom processing service agreements. Working directly with customers from a wide range of market segments, machinery and processes are demonstrated in a safe and effective manner in support of Sales efforts.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage test setups, process operation, and cleanup to ensure successful completion of pilot test projects and the safety of personnel. Review process safety prior to testing as well as the SDS for appropriate personnel protection.
  • Maintain PDC organization of equipment and cleanliness of all bays to ensure smooth transition between tests.
  • Ensure the PDC personnel are trained in how to achieve the best performance of the test machinery and to obtain accurate and precise data needed by the Technology Group for scale up to commercial installations.
  • Conduct employee performance evaluations and onboarding (orientation) with new team members. Review and improve team member operations and safety training annually.
  • Schedule pilot tests for team members and equipment for pilot testing, custom processing, equipment rental, material analysis, and R&D. Manage, align team members, and review test processes as needed for safety and collection of process data resulting in competitive bids and technology development.
  • Ability to work and communicate with both internal and external customers to understand and react to identified needs in prioritizing, scheduling, and quoting pilot test, custom processing, and R&D projects.
  • Establish costing, negotiate custom processing, and process development projects. Write Custom Processing proposals and communicate information either through the Technology/Sales groups or directly with the customer.
  • Work with Finance to invoice customers for quoted services. Maintain electronic files ready for financial audits.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment/Travel Requirements

  • Physical requirements: Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Work environment: Promote good housekeeping and cleanliness practices in the PDC to ensure safe and professional work conditions.
  • Travel requirements: As needed for start-ups and customer visits.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship for employment visa (H1-B) status.

Education:

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering, Business Management, or related technical degree preferred.

Experience/Skills:

  • 2+ years of management experience preferred.
  • 3 + years of experience in mechanical process equipment desired.
  • Project management experience desired.
  • Process design experience desired.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Computer software skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Epicor 10, and Adobe Acrobat.
