Sales Engineer I

Summary:

The Sales Engineer I is responsible for identifying, qualifying, and winning new equipment business primarily in the United States and Canada, along with supporting existing Bepex customers. This role blends technical expertise with consultative, value-based selling, demanding both engineering depth and strong commercial and interpersonal capability.

The ideal candidate thrives on understanding customer challenges, creating compelling value-driven solutions, and managing complex sales cycles with discipline and speed. Success is defined by achieving set target amounts in new equipment business for both existing and new customers, while developing deep process knowledge, trust-based relationships, and consistent pipeline execution.

Responsibilities:

  • Sell custom process equipment solutions (size reduction, agglomeration, thermal processing) to customers in the food, chemical, and mineral markets.
  • Prospect aggressively to develop new business through research, outreach, and trade shows.
  • Qualify leads effectively using a structured, consultative approach to uncover needs and define next steps.
  • Build and execute an individual sales plan aligned with company goals and regional growth targets.
  • Maintain a disciplined, documented pipeline in Salesforce CRM; ensure timely updates and accurate forecasts.
  • Conduct independent customer visits to strengthen relationships, advance capital projects, and support Bepex Parts sales.
  • Deliver presentations and proposals that translate technical capabilities into measurable business outcomes.
  • Differentiate Bepex technologies confidently against competitive alternatives.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, service, and operations teams to ensure unified, customer-focused execution.
  • Provide regular sales forecasts and participate in 1:1 forecast reviews with the VP of Sales.
  • Submit concise, insight-driven trip reports summarizing opportunities, customer feedback, and market intelligence.

Education & Work Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering preferred.
  • 2-3 years of experience in capital equipment, industrial systems, or process technology sales, ideally within the food, chemical, or mineral industries desired.
  • Proven success managing complex, technical, solution-oriented sales cycles from prospecting through closing.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply consultative sales techniques and convert customer challenges into business value.
  • Proficiency with Salesforce CRM, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and standard business tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including proposal and presentation development.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and passport and be able to travel domestically and internationally as required.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 50% travel, primarily domestic.
  • Occasional international travel may be required.

Buyer

Minneapolis, MN, USA

Summary:

Responsible for quoting and purchasing stock parts, fabricated parts, and equipment assigned by class. Proactively resolving issues that arise regarding lead time and availability and expediting purchase orders.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing part quotes to Aftermarket group including lead time, product availability, and price.
  • Purchasing parts determined by sales orders and stock requirements, including negotiating price, lead time, quality and sourcing alternative suppliers.
  • Tracking and expediting purchase orders.
  • Act as main point of contact for and manage relationships with suppliers, solving problems and issues as they arise, including correction of out-of-spec parts and invoice issues.
  • Communicate with internal sales stakeholders regarding pricing, lead time and availability of equipment.
  • Collaborate with internal Engineering group to fully understand their project needs.
  • Utilize Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Software to manage suppliers, create purchase orders, create jobs, complete necessary status reports, and update necessary equipment and job information.
  • Maintain updated promise dates and proactively communicate schedule changes.
  • Create Engineering Change Orders as needed.
  • Run reports and take necessary action to ensure proper inventory control for stock parts.
  • Initiate vendor non-disclosure agreements for new sources.
  • Participate in yearly physical inventory.
  • Other small business purchases as needed.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • This position will require being in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
  • This position requires the use of general office equipment including but not limited to computer, telephone, printer and copy machine.
  • Occasional (10-20%) car travel to local or nearby vendor facilities or short duration overnight travel to out-oftown suppliers is expected.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or supply chain management, preferred.

Experience/Skills:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in purchasing fabricated parts and assemblies is preferred.
  • Ability to read technical/construction drawings and Bill of Materials. Detail-orientation is required.
  • Familiarity with welding and fabrication machining, materials and practices preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be assertive and to negotiate with vendors respectfully.
  • Proactive problem-solving and relationship-building skills.
  • Mechanical aptitude, ability to understand and interest in mechanical systems.
  • Strong proficiency using Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, and ERP systems. Mastery of Kinetic/Epicor is a plus.
  • Ability to analyze data to make well-informed decisions.
