POLYOLEFINS

The removal of volatiles is an integral yet critical part of every polyolefin production process. This devolatilization operation of polymer processing is often overlooked. These volatiles generally consist of un-reacted monomers, hydrocarbon solvents, and/or water. It is important to remove the volatiles for safety in storage, transportation and successful operation of downstream equipment (extrusion for example). Our in-house knowledge and expertise in particle processing has provided a strong platform for this purpose for over 40 years. Some common applications are:

Desolventize polyolefins with zero inert gas addition. With no inert gas addition, all exhaust gas from the Solidaire can be condensed and recycled back to the reactors. Even the addition of small amounts of inert gas can require large expenditures for gas treatment. (Seals can be purged with process gas.)

Single or multiple stage drying/ desolventizing/ stripping of Polyethylene and Polypropylene. More energy efficient than alternative technologies and can be lower capital cost. Process flexibility is greatly enhanced.

Removing the monomer from polystyrene without degrading the product. In a less powerful dryer, isomers of styrene form that create a less desirable product. The extremely high drying rate in the Solidaire prevents formation of the unwanted isomers.
Desolventizing filtering media in the petro-chem industry. The high-speed paddles disperse the sticky wet cake and produce a scouring action that keeps the heat transfer surfaces clean.
